September is fast approaching and that means we will soon be entering our Board of Directors annual election cycle. I am pleased to announce that Kathy Mutch has agreed once again to chair our Nominating Committee and conduct our election process.
This year there will be five Board positions open for election: President, Secretary, Director of Fundraising, Director of Golden Rescue, and Director of Southern K-9 Operations. The position of Director of Events is not part of this year’s election cycle, but it remains vacant and the Board would like to appoint a willing member to fill it.
It has been my honor and privilege to serve as your President for the past three years, and I thank you all for your dedication, support and kindness. I am completing my second term this autumn, and will not be running for a third term. Change in leadership is always healthy for any organization, and I look forward to working with our new President. And I cannot think of a better time to transition to a new President. We have survived the recession and are financially stable. The rescue teams are running smoothly, and if there is any problem at all it’s that there are not as many dogs coming into rescue. This is the case nationwide and most likely reflects the improving economy. Still, whoever takes over in November will not be walking into any sort of crisis, and I’ll still be in position to serve as your mentor.
Our Goldens cannot rescue themselves. Board service is one of the most important and rewarding ways you can contribute to our rescue’s success. I strongly urge you to step up and run for a Board position. Chairperson Kathy Mutch will be providing details in the near future as part of the normal election process.
Finally, next month we will hold our signature fundraising event – the Links of Gold Golf Tournament. I want to personally thank Michelle and John Krieger for allowing their very entertaining Golden Retriever, Lizzy, to serve as our Canine Sponsor for the second year in a row! Lizzy will be keeping you updated on all things Links of Gold so look for e-blasts from her leading up to the big event on September 13th (Lizzy is an excellent typist despite the oppositional thumb issue). I also wish to acknowledge our Premier Sponsors, Una and Dave Loge, for their leadership, generosity and kindness. And Audi North Scottsdale has generously stepped up as our Hole in One sponsor, so don’t miss your chance to drive a new Audi off the course! This is my final Links of Gold as your President, and I’d love to end my term of service with a huge success!
See you at the golf tournament on September 13th!
Lizzy Krieger returns as Links of Gold Canine Sponsor!
Last year, Lizzy heard lots of buzz about the Links of Gold Golf Tournament and what a fantastic time everyone had golfing, eating, drinking, and winning cool raffle prizes. Lizzy understood that this was because she had been in charge of planning the entire event, so she decided to take over again this year. And she’s gone all out, convincing Audi North Scottsdale to sponsor our Hole in One! Lizzy will personally drive the winner off the course . . . because everyone knows Goldens are excellent drivers!
Lizzy’s latest idea is to feature your Golden Retriever on a tee box sign for just $100.00! And they’re selling like Frosty Paws so don’t wait. Click here to purchase your tee sign now – and while you’re at it sign up for 18 holes at beautiful Troon North Gold Club, or just the all new buffet dinner featuring chicken piccata.
You too can become a sponsor just like Lizzy! Our new sponsorship opportunities are very affordable (click here to check them out). It’s a great way to support the Goldens you love!
And wait till you see the raffle prizes Lizzy has come up with – weekend getaways to Palm Springs, Sedona, Flagstaff, free golf, Suns tickets, and fabulous gift baskets! Just be sure to grab those homemade doggie cookies sitting on the tables because Lizzy made them herself! Yum!!!

Thank you to our Bowl-A-Rama supporters and dogs:
Stevie, Tasha, Willie & Finnegan!
The pins were spinning and crashing at Scottsdale Lanes on Saturday, August 9th as scores of animal rescues came together for the 12th Annual Bowl-A-Rama! Leading up to the event, RAGofAZ raised $2,600.00 in donations supporting our four beautiful Bowl-A-Rama dogs – Stevie, Tasha, Willie and Finnegan. We exceeded last year’s fundraising goal by several hundred dollars! Thank you to every one of you for your generosity and support.
Sadly, we must report that sweet Tasha crossed to the Bridge early this month and offer our heartfelt condolences to Ruth Ann Steffes on her loss. Though the time Tasha was with us was too short, we are grateful for the love and joy she gave Ruth Ann and all who ever had the chance to lay a hand on her trusting face.
Gone but never forgotten . . . remember the beloved Goldens who have crossed to the Bridge but will live forever in the hearts of those who loved them.
