Murphy, now known as Toby, is a 3 year old dark red beauty who was found by a good Samaritan who then called RAGofAZ. Toby had obvious injuries to his leg and could not put weight on it. He was brought to one of our vets who determined that Toby had a serious fracture to his leg, likely caused by being hit by a car. He was seriously dehydrated and was about 20 pounds underweight. Toby has since had surgery to repair the leg fracture and has recuperated in a foster home---giving him time to heal, build up strength and learn again about the joys of living in a home.
Toby has found his forever home! Read what he has to say here.

This is the first time I’ve had the chance to write to you, but I’ve sure been thinking of you! My name is Toby (aka Murphy) and I was rescued by RAGofAZ the first part of December. Some of you may know my story, but just in case you don’t here’s a brief recap: After being found in a drainage ditch in North Phoenix by some guardian angels (they fly around me ALL the time) I was rescued - saved, really - by RAGofAZ. I was in lots of pain with a fractured femur and had been surviving somehow (I have erased that memory) in the desert for a really long time, evading packs of hungry coyotes. The angels at RAGofAZ made sure that I received the treatment that I needed which included surgery with a plate, screws, and bone grafts. After a couple of weeks in recovery with my foster angel, Auntie B, I was adopted by my family and that’s where my story truly begins . . .
When I first came to my family I was terrified of everything and everyone from loud noises to hummingbirds flying by. Two-legged animals were especially frightening to me. I would hide in my family’s closet and figured out how to push the door closed so that I could hide so that “bad” things wouldn’t happen to me. After almost two months with my family I have learned to play with my toys, walk with my humans, wade in my pool, and, most important of all, to trust again. (Mom says that I’ve discovered my inner dog and calls me a “wild child” sometimes. I’ve even learned I have a voice!). I have to admit that some loud noises still scare me, but I’m lots braver and not nearly as afraid (certainly NOT of hummingbirds!). I know now that life is good, two-legged animals can be trusted, and squeaker toys are lots fun.
If I could make a wish it would be that all pups out there would have the same angels in their lives that I have in mine. Without the support, expertise, and love from everyone at RAGofAZ I would not have survived. Thank you RAGofAZ for saving my life and for giving me a wonderful life. I will be forever grateful. Got to go now to chase some hummingbirds!
Toby (aka Murphy, Tobster, Tobes)
